Incidence and predictive factors for poststroke depression

چکیده
In their study, Fingelkurts et al (2006) demonstrated via EEG (electroencephalogram) that patients with depression have abnormal activity in the prefrontal lobe and the limbic system. Among the most suggestive changes are as follows: the presence of theta waves in the frontal lobe and the frequency increase of alpha and beta waves. Since the first discussions about poststroke depression (Robinson 1986), it has been suggested that when catecholamine neurons are affected the production and release of neurotransmitters during the regeneration process is reduced, and this does not happen only in the affected area, but also throughout the cerebral tissue. It is known that the region located in the anterior part of the frontal lobe is where the highest concentration of catecholaminergic fibres is found. This is consistent with the observation that injuries in the frontal region are the most vulnerable to the production of post-stroke mood disorders, namely to post-stroke depression. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate an association between certain parameters and the risk of post-stroke depression, and to establish the incidence of post-stroke depression.

Poststroke depression incidence and risk factors: an integrative literature review.
Depression is a frequent complication of stroke, but few nurse researchers have studied poststroke depression (PSD). We reviewed all published research (January 1980-March 2005) that examined the incidence of and risk factors for depression among stroke survivors during the first 3 months after stroke. Many of the 49 studies reviewed were complicated by methodological limitations, including dif...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE There are few data on the prevalence or treatment of depression from unselected populations long-term poststroke. We assessed the prevalence of depression and antidepressant use at 5-years poststroke in an unselected stroke population. METHODS Five-year survivors from a prospective community-based stroke incidence study were assessed for depression with the Irritability...
متن کاملA Prospective Study on the Prevalence and Risk Factors of Poststroke Depression
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Poststroke depression (PSD) is common. Early detection of depressive symptoms and identification of patients at risk for PSD are important as PSD negatively affects stroke outcome and costs of medical care. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine incidence and risk factors for PSD at 3 months after stroke. METHODS We conducted a prospective, longitudinal epide...
